34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, (A)“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!” 36 Then (B)someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and (C)offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.”
37 (D)And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
38 Then (E)the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So (F)when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that [a]He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”

34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[a](A)
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(B) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(C)
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(D) 39 And when the centurion,(E) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[b] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(F)
