Matthew 10:32-39

³²“Therefore, ^(A)everyone who ^[a]confesses Me before people, I will also confess ^[b]him before My Father who is in heaven. ³³But ^(B)whoever denies Me before people, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

³⁴“^(C)Do not think that I came to ^[c]bring peace on the earth; I did not come to ^[d]bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵For I came to ^(D)turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; ³⁶and ^(E)a person’s enemies will be the members of his household.

³⁷“^(F)The one who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. ³⁸And ^(G)the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. ³⁹^(H)The one who has found his ^[e]life will lose it, and the one who has lost his ^[f]life on My account will find it.

³⁴“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law^(C)—
³⁶ a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’^[a]^(D)

³⁷“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.^(E) ³⁸Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.^(F) ³⁹Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.^(G)
