Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb(A)

50 (B)Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. 51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, (C)who[a] himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 (D)Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. 54 That day was (E)the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.

55 And the women (F)who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and (G)they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned and (H)prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath (I)according to the commandment.

He Is Risen(J)

24 Now (K)on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, [b]and certain other women with them, came to the tomb (L)bringing the spices which they had prepared. (M)But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. (N)Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were [c]greatly perplexed about this, that (O)behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! (P)Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be (Q)delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’

And (R)they remembered His words. (S)Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, (T)Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11 (U)And their words seemed to them like [d]idle tales, and they did not believe them. 12 (V)But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths [e]lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.

The Burial of Jesus(A)

50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.(B) 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. 54 It was Preparation Day,(C) and the Sabbath was about to begin.

55 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee(D) followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.(E) But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.(F)

Jesus Has Risen(G)

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared(H) and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.(I) While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning(J) stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:(K) ‘The Son of Man(L) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’(M) Then they remembered his words.(N)

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them(O) who told this to the apostles.(P) 11 But they did not believe(Q) the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves,(R) and he went away,(S) wondering to himself what had happened.
