²⁵ But I tell you truly, ^(A)many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;

¹⁷ Elijah was a man ^(A)with a nature like ours, and ^(B)he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

Elijah Proclaims a Drought

17 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the ^(A)inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, ^(B)“As the Lord God of Israel lives, ^(C)before whom I stand, ^(D)there shall not be dew nor rain ^(E)these years, except at my word.”

Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit^(A)

^21 (B)In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

²⁶ The woman was a ^[a]Greek, a ^[b]Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept ^[c]asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷ But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

²⁸ And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”

²⁹ Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

^15 (A)Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or ^(B)is your eye evil because I am good?’

Elijah’s Message to Ahab

18 And it came to pass after ^(A)many days that the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Ahab, and ^(B)I will send rain on the earth.”

² So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab; and there was a severe famine in Samaria.

^11 (A)In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to ^(B)the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
