²³ He said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ And you will say, ‘Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.’ ”^(A)

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

⁴⁶ Then he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum.^{(A) 47} When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.^{(B) 48} Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you^[a] see signs and wonders you will not believe.”^{(C) 49} The official said to him, “Sir,^[b] come down before my little boy dies.” ⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.”^[c] The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. ⁵¹ As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive. ⁵² So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, “Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him.” ⁵³ The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.”^[d] So he himself believed, along with his whole household.^(D)

The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

6 He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.

¹³ He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali,

¹⁶ From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view;^[a] even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view,^[b] we no longer know him in that way.^(A)

²¹ you, then, who teach others, will you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?^{(A) 22} You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

³ So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing,^{(A) 4} for no one who wants^[a] to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.”

²⁸ Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people,

³ When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” ⁴ And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to me and to you?^[a] My hour has not yet come.”^(A)
