Anna’s Testimony

36 There was also a prophetess,(A) Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.(B) She was well along in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,[a](C) 37 and was a widow for eighty-four years.[b] She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers.(D) 38 At that very moment,[c] she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.[d](E)

36 Now Anna, a prophetess, was also there. She was a descendant of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having lived with her husband for seven years after her marriage, 37 and then as a widow for 84 years. She never left the Temple, but continued to worship there night and day with times of fasting and prayer. 38 Just then she came forward and began to thank God and to speak about Jesus[a] to everyone who was waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
