²⁰ Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,

¹⁵ So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having ^(A)scourged^[a] Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

¹² From then on ^(A)Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. ^(B)Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.”

¹⁹ Besides, while he was sitting on ^(A)the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with ^(B)that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today ^(C)in a dream.”

⁸ Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” ⁹ And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given.
