¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers ^(A)treated him with contempt and ^(B)mocked him. Then, ^(C)arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.

Jesus Is Mocked

^16 (A)And the soldiers led him away inside ^(B)the palace (that is, ^(C)the governor's headquarters),^[a] and they called together the whole ^(D)battalion.^{[b] 17} And they clothed him in ^(E)a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. ¹⁸ And they began to salute him, ^(F)“Hail, King of the Jews!” ¹⁹ And they were striking his head with a reed and ^(G)spitting on him and ^(H)kneeling down in homage to him. ²⁰ And when they had ^(I)mocked him, they stripped him of ^(J)the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they ^(K)led him out to crucify him.

Jesus Is Mocked

^27 (A)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the ^(B)governor's headquarters,^[a] and they gathered the whole ^(C)battalion^[b] before him. ²⁸ And they stripped him and put ^(D)a scarlet robe on him, ²⁹ and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they ^(E)mocked him, saying, “Hail, ^(F)King of the Jews!” ³⁰ And ^(G)they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.

⁵ So Jesus came out, wearing ^(A)the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, ^(B)“Behold the man!”

¹² And he said to them, “Elijah does come first ^(A)to restore all things. And ^(B)how is it written of the Son of Man that he should ^(C)suffer many things and ^(D)be treated with contempt?

²⁷ for truly in this city there were gathered together against your ^(A)holy servant Jesus, ^(B)whom you anointed, both ^(C)Herod and ^(D)Pontius Pilate, along ^(E)with the Gentiles and ^(F)the peoples of Israel, ^28 (G)to do whatever your hand and ^(H)your plan had predestined to take place.
