³⁹ And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

4 Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the ^(A)Sadducees came upon them, ² being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

¹³ “But ^(A)woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

⁵ Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, ^(A)“The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

¹⁶ saying, ^(A)“What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a ^[a]notable miracle has been done through them is ^(B)evident^[b] to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.”

^18 (C)So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, ^(A)“You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”

^10 (A)But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the ^(A)Son of David!” they were ^[a]indignant ¹⁶ and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”

And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,

^47 (A)Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, ^(B)“What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”
