¹⁴ But ^(A)his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

^51 (A)“You stiff-necked people, ^(B)uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. ^(C)As your fathers did, so do you. ^52 (D)Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of ^(E)the Righteous One, ^(F)whom you have now betrayed and murdered,

⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, ^(A)for they have not rejected you, ^(B)but they have rejected me from being king over them.

¹⁴ But you denied ^(A)the Holy and ^(B)Righteous One, and ^(C)asked for a murderer to be granted to you, ¹⁵ and you killed ^(D)the Author of life, ^(E)whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.

^23 (A)Whoever hates me hates my Father also. ^24 (B)If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, ^(C)they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have ^(D)seen and hated both me and my Father.

²⁷ for truly in this city there were gathered together against your ^(A)holy servant Jesus, ^(B)whom you anointed, both ^(C)Herod and ^(D)Pontius Pilate, along ^(E)with the Gentiles and ^(F)the peoples of Israel, ^28 (G)to do whatever your hand and ^(H)your plan had predestined to take place.

The Hatred of the World

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.

¹¹ He came to ^(A)his own,^[a] and ^(B)his own people^{[b] (C)}did not receive him.

²⁷ But ^(A)as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and ^(B)slaughter them before me.’”
