¹¹ The Pharisee, ^(A)standing by himself, prayed^{[a] (B)}thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

The Lord's Prayer

⁵ “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love ^(A)to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. ^(B)Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

²⁵ And whenever ^(A)you stand praying, ^(B)forgive, ^(C)if you have anything against anyone, so that ^(D)your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”^[a]

^17 (A)For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, ^(B)blind, and naked.

⁹ But if you ^(A)show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point ^(B)has become guilty of all of it. ¹¹ For he who said, ^(C)“Do not commit adultery,” also said, ^(D)“Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under ^(E)the law of liberty.

Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners

¹² I thank him ^(A)who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, ^(B)appointing me to his service, ¹³ though formerly I was a blasphemer, ^(C)persecutor, and insolent opponent. But ^(D)I received mercy ^(E)because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, ¹⁴ and ^(F)the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the ^(G)faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ The saying is ^(H)trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus ^(I)came into the world to save sinners, ^(J)of whom I am the foremost. ¹⁶ But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

¹⁰ For all who rely on works of the law are ^(A)under a curse; for it is written, ^(B)“Cursed be everyone who does not ^(C)abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
