²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,^(A) but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

¹¹ For the sun rises with scorching heat^(A) and withers^(B) the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.^(C) In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

¹² Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial^(D) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life^(E) that the Lord has promised to those who love him.^(F)

⁴ Therefore, among God’s churches we boast^(A) about your perseverance and faith^(B) in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.^(C)

⁵ All this is evidence^(D) that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy^(E) of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. ⁶ God is just:^(F) He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you^{(G) 7} and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven^(H) in blazing fire^(I) with his powerful angels.^{(J) 8} He will punish^(K) those who do not know God^(L) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^{(M) 9} They will be punished with everlasting destruction^(N) and shut out from the presence of the Lord^(O) and from the glory of his might^{(P) 10} on the day^(Q) he comes to be glorified^(R) in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.^(S)

¹⁸ And you will again see the distinction between the righteous^(A) and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.^(B)

¹⁰ And the devil, who deceived them,^(A) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,^(B) where the beast^(C) and the false prophet^(D) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.^(E)

Warning to Rich Oppressors

5 Now listen,^(A) you rich people,^(B) weep and wail^(C) because of the misery that is coming on you. ² Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.^{(D) 3} Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.^{(E) 4} Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers^(F) who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries^(G) of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.^{(H) 5} You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves^(I) in the day of slaughter.^{[a](J) 6} You have condemned and murdered^(K) the innocent one,^(L) who was not opposing you.

Patience in Suffering

⁷ Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.^(M) See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting^(N) for the autumn and spring rains.^(O)
