Jesus’ Lamentation over Jerusalem

³⁴ “Jerusalem, Jerusalem!^(A) She who kills the prophets and stones^(B) those who are sent to her.^(C) How often I wanted to gather your children^(D) together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,^(E) but you were not willing!^{(F) 35} See, your house^[a] is abandoned to you.^(G) And I tell you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One’!”^(H)[b]

³⁵ Jesus wept.^(A)

⁷ During His earthly life,^[a] He offered prayers and appeals^(A) with loud cries and tears^(B) to the One who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
