¹⁴ But ^(A)the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus ^(B)had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, ^(C)“There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”

^9 (A)Six days you shall labor, and do all your work,

^14 (A)Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. ^15 (B)So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” ¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not ^(C)from God, ^(D)for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, ^(E)“How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And ^(F)there was a division among them.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, ^(A)“Look, your disciples are doing ^(B)what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”

¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. ¹⁶ And this was why the Jews ^(A)were persecuting Jesus, ^(B)because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

⁷ And the scribes and the Pharisees ^(A)watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, ^(B)so that they might find a reason to accuse him.

³ And Jesus responded to ^(A)the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, ^(B)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” ⁴ But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away. ⁵ And he said to them, ^(C)“Which of you, having a son^[a] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” ^6 (D)And they could not reply to these things.

^41 (A)And there came a man named Jairus, who was ^(B)a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus' feet, he implored him to come to his house,

^22 (A)Then came one of ^(B)the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet
