^49 (B)“I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

The Great Day of God

¹⁰ And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. ^(A)Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ^11 (B)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(C)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire. ^12 (D)His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will ^(E)burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

^51 (A)Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, ^(B)but rather division. ^52 (C)For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.

^4 (A)I^[a] must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is ^(B)day; the night is coming when no one can work.

¹⁷ Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. ^18 (A)For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. ¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, ^(B)“You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”

^31 [a]On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

³² And He said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day ^(A)I shall be ^[b]perfected.’ ³³ Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.
