⁴ Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

³⁵ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals,^(A) did you lack anything?”

“Nothing,” they answered.

²⁹ Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,^(A) take my staff^(B) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”

⁴ Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

⁵ “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ ⁶ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. ⁷ Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.^(A) Do not move around from house to house.

⁸ “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.^{(B) 9} Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God^(C) has come near to you.’ ¹⁰ But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, ¹¹ ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you.^(D) Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’^{(E) 12} I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom^(F) than for that town.^(G)

⁸ These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. ⁹ Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. ¹⁰ Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. ¹¹ And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet^(A) as a testimony against them.”

²⁴ She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.”

⁸ David asked Ahimelek, “Don’t you have a spear or a sword here? I haven’t brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king’s mission was urgent.”

⁵⁹ He said to another man, “Follow me.”^(A)

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

⁶⁰ Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”^(B)

⁹ “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts^(A)— ¹⁰ no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.^{(B) 11} Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. ¹² As you enter the home, give it your greeting.^{(C) 13} If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. ¹⁴ If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.^(D)
