⁵⁴ He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful^(A)

²⁰ You will be faithful to Jacob,
    and show love to Abraham,^(A)
as you pledged on oath to our ancestors^(B)
    in days long ago.^(C)

²¹ “Remember^(A) these things, Jacob,
    for you, Israel, are my servant.^(B)
I have made you, you are my servant;^(C)
    Israel, I will not forget you.^(D)

²⁰ Is not Ephraim my dear son,
    the child^(A) in whom I delight?
Though I often speak against him,
    I still remember^(B) him.
Therefore my heart yearns for him;
    I have great compassion^(C) for him,”
declares the Lord.

¹⁴ But Zion^(A) said, “The Lord has forsaken^(B) me,
    the Lord has forgotten me.”

¹⁵ “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
    and have no compassion on the child^(C) she has borne?
Though she may forget,
    I will not forget you!^(D)
16 See, I have engraved^(E) you on the palms of my hands;
    your walls^(F) are ever before me.

³ “Listen^(A) to me, you descendants of Jacob,
    all the remnant^(B) of the people of Israel,
you whom I have upheld since your birth,^(C)
    and have carried^(D) since you were born.^(E)
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs^(F)
    I am he,^(G) I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
    I will sustain^(H) you and I will rescue you.

⁷⁰ (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),^(A)
71 salvation from our enemies
    and from the hand of all who hate us—
⁷² to show mercy to our ancestors^(B)
    and to remember his holy covenant,^(C)
73     the oath he swore to our father Abraham:^(D)
74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
    and to enable us to serve him^(E) without fear^(F)
75     in holiness and righteousness^(G) before him all our days.
