¹⁵ for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink,^(A) and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit^(B) even before he is born.^(C)

¹⁸ Do not get drunk on wine,^(A) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,^(B)

¹⁵ But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb^(A) and called me^(B) by his grace, was pleased

³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,^(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’

¹⁴ That day the Lord exalted^(A) Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.

⁴ All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit^(A) and began to speak in other tongues^[a](B) as the Spirit enabled them.

⁴ Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink^(A) and that you do not eat anything unclean.^{(B) 5} You will become pregnant and have a son^(C) whose head is never to be touched by a razor^(D) because the boy is to be a Nazirite,^(E) dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead^(F) in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

⁶ Then the woman went to her husband and told him, “A man of God^(G) came to me. He looked like an angel of God,^(H) very awesome.^(I) I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name.
