15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the [a]manger.17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.
18 Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His [a]possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in [b]unchanging love. 19 He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all [c]their sins Into the depths of the sea. 20 You will give [d]truth to Jacob And[e]unchanging love to Abraham, Which You swore to our forefathers From the days of old.
16 For men swear by [a]one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.17 [b]In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, [c]interposed with an oath,18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have [d]taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.19 [e]This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters [f]within the veil,20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
