²⁸And they approached the village where they were going, and ^(A)He gave the impression that He was going farther. ²⁹And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day ^[a]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. ³⁰And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and ^(B)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. ³¹And then their ^(C)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from ^[b]their sight. ³²They said to one another, “^[c]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He ^(D)was ^[d]explaining the Scriptures to us?” ³³And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and ^(E)found the eleven gathered together and ^(F)those who were with them,

²⁸As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. ²⁹But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

³⁰When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it^(A) and began to give it to them. ³¹Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,^(B) and he disappeared from their sight. ³²They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us^(C) while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures^(D) to us?”
