The Birth of Jesus

At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child.

And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

Nacimiento de Jesús

En esos días, Augusto, el emperador de Roma, decretó que se hiciera un censo en todo el Imperio romano. (Este fue el primer censo que se hizo cuando Cirenio era gobernador de Siria). Todos regresaron a los pueblos de sus antepasados a fin de inscribirse para el censo. Como José era descendiente del rey David, tuvo que ir a Belén de Judea, el antiguo hogar de David. Viajó hacia allí desde la aldea de Nazaret de Galilea. Llevó consigo a María, su prometida, quien estaba embarazada.

Mientras estaban allí, llegó el momento para que naciera el bebé. María dio a luz a su primer hijo varón. Lo envolvió en tiras de tela y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había alojamiento disponible para ellos.
