33 Teach me,(A) Lord, the way of your decrees,
that I may follow it to the end.[a]
34 Give me understanding,(B) so that I may keep your law(C)
and obey it with all my heart.(D)
35 Direct me(E) in the path of your commands,(F)
    for there I find delight.(G)
36 Turn my heart(H) toward your statutes
    and not toward selfish gain.(I)
37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life(J) according to your word.[b](K)
38 Fulfill your promise(L) to your servant,
so that you may be feared.
39 Take away the disgrace(M) I dread,
    for your laws are good.
40 How I long(N) for your precepts!

10 By the grace God has given me,(A) I laid a foundation(B) as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.(C)

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple(A) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?(B) 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise(C) by the standards of this age,(D) you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness(E) in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”[a];(F) 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”[b](G) 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders!(H) All things are yours,(I) 22 whether Paul or Apollos(J) or Cephas[c](K) or the world or life or death or the present or the future(L)—all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ,(M) and Christ is of God.

Eye for Eye

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a](A) 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.(B) 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.(C)

Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[b](D) and hate your enemy.’(E) 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,(F) 45 that you may be children(G) of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.(H) 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?(I) Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?
