11 (A)My eyes are spent with weeping;
    (B)my stomach churns;
(C)my bile is poured out to the ground
    (D)because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
(E)because infants and babies (F)faint
    in the streets of the city.

12 They cry to their mothers,
    (G)“Where is bread and wine?”
(H)as they faint like a wounded man
    in the streets of the city,
as their life is poured out
    on their mothers' bosom.

13 What can I say for you, (I)to what compare you,
    O daughter of Jerusalem?
(J)What can I liken to you, that I may comfort you,
    O virgin daughter of Zion?
(K)For your ruin is vast as the sea;
    who can heal you?

14 (L)Your prophets have seen for you
    false and deceptive visions;
(M)they have not exposed your iniquity
    to (N)restore your fortunes,
(O)but have seen for you (P)oracles
    that are false and misleading.

15 All who pass along the way
    clap their hands at you;
(Q)they hiss and wag their heads
    at the daughter of Jerusalem:
“Is this the city that was called
    (R)the perfection of beauty,
    (S)the joy of all the earth?”

16 (T)All your enemies
    rail against you;
they hiss, they gnash their teeth,
    they cry: “We (U)have swallowed her!
Ah, this is the day we longed for;
    now we have it; (V)we see it!”

17 The Lord has done what he purposed;
    he has carried out (W)his word,
which he commanded (X)long ago;
    (Y)he has thrown down (Z)without pity;
(AA)he has made the enemy rejoice over you
    and exalted the (AB)might of your foes.

18 Their heart cried to the Lord.
    O (AC)wall of the daughter of Zion,
(AD)let tears stream down like a torrent
    (AE)day and night!
(AF)Give yourself no rest,
    (AG)your eyes no respite!

19 “Arise, (AH)cry out in the night,
    at the beginning of the night watches!
(AI)Pour out your heart like water
    before the presence of the Lord!
(AJ)Lift your hands to him
    for the lives of your children,
(AK)who faint for hunger
    at the head of every street.”

20 Look, O Lord, and see!
    (AL)With whom have you dealt thus?
(AM)Should women eat the fruit of their womb,
    the children of (AN)their tender care?
Should (AO)priest and prophet be killed
    in the sanctuary of the Lord?

21 In the dust of the streets
    (AP)lie the young and the old;
(AQ)my young women and my young men
    have fallen by the sword;
(AR)you have killed them in the day of your anger,
    slaughtering (AS)without pity.

22 You summoned as if to (AT)a festival day
    (AU)my terrors on every side,
(AV)and on the day of the anger of the Lord
    no one escaped or survived;
(AW)those whom I held and raised
    my enemy destroyed.

Great Is Your Faithfulness

(AX)I am the man who has seen affliction
    under the (AY)rod of his wrath;
he has driven and brought me
    (AZ)into darkness without any light;
surely against me he turns his hand
    again and again the whole day long.

He has made my flesh and my skin waste away;
    (BA)he has broken my bones;
(BB)he has besieged and enveloped me
    with (BC)bitterness and tribulation;
(BD)he has made me dwell in darkness
    like the dead of long ago.

(BE)He has walled me about so that (BF)I cannot escape;
    he has made my chains heavy;
though (BG)I call and cry for help,
    he shuts out my prayer;
(BH)he has blocked my ways with blocks of stones;
    he has made my paths crooked.

10 (BI)He is a bear lying in wait for me,
    a lion in hiding;
11 (BJ)he turned aside my steps and (BK)tore me to pieces;
    (BL)he has made me desolate;
12 (BM)he bent his bow (BN)and set me
    as a target for his arrow.

13 He drove into my kidneys
    (BO)the arrows of his quiver;
14 (BP)I have become the laughingstock of all peoples,
    (BQ)the object of their taunts all day long.
15 (BR)He has filled me with bitterness;
    he has sated me with (BS)wormwood.

16 (BT)He has made my teeth grind on gravel,
    and (BU)made me cower in ashes;
17 my soul is bereft of peace;
    I have forgotten what happiness[a] is;
18 (BV)so I say, “My endurance has perished;
    so has my hope from the Lord.”

My Help Comes from the Lord

A Song of (A)Ascents.

121 I (B)lift up my eyes to (C)the hills.
    From where does my help come?
(D)My help comes from the Lord,
    who (E)made heaven and earth.

He will not (F)let your foot be moved;
    he who (G)keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
    the Lord is your (H)shade on your (I)right hand.
(J)The sun shall not (K)strike you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will (L)keep you from all evil;
    he will (M)keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your (N)going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.

Christ's Sacrifice Once for All

10 For since the law has but (A)a shadow (B)of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, (C)it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? But (D)in these sacrifices (E)there is a reminder of sins every year. For (F)it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Consequently, (G)when Christ[a] came into the world, he said,

(H)“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
    but a body have you prepared for me;
in burnt offerings and sin offerings
    you have taken no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
    as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in (I)sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, (J)“Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that will (K)we have been sanctified through the offering of (L)the body of Jesus Christ (M)once for all.

11 And every priest stands (N)daily at his service, (O)offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, (P)which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ[b] had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he (Q)sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time (R)until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering (S)he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16 (T)“This is the covenant that I will make with them
    after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
    and write them on their minds,”

17 then he adds,

(U)“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
