²⁴ And he said, “I do have one request, that each of you give me an earring^(A) from your share of the plunder.^(B)” (It was the custom of the Ishmaelites^(C) to wear gold earrings.)

¹³ These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth^(A) the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar,^(B) Adbeel, Mibsam,

²⁸ So when the Midianite^(A) merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern^(B) and sold^(C) him for twenty shekels^[a] of silver^(D) to the Ishmaelites,^(E) who took him to Egypt.^(F)

²⁵ As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites^(A) coming from Gilead.^(B) Their camels were loaded with spices, balm^(C) and myrrh,^(D) and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.^(E)

³ So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron.

³⁵ The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold^(A) and for clothing.^(B)
