¹⁹ Gideon went inside, prepared a young goat,^(A) and from an ephah^[a](B) of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.^(C)

⁶ So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs^[a] of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.”^(A)

⁷ Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf^(B) and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. ⁸ He then brought some curds^(C) and milk^(D) and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them.^(E) While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

¹⁵ Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat^(A) for you.”

¹⁶ The angel of the Lord replied, “Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering,^(B) offer it to the Lord.” (Manoah did not realize^(C) that it was the angel of the Lord.)

¹⁷ Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, “What is your name,^(D) so that we may honor you when your word comes true?”

¹⁸ He replied, “Why do you ask my name?^(E) It is beyond understanding.^[a]” ¹⁹ Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock^(F) to the Lord. And the Lord did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched:

⁴ “‘If you bring a grain offering baked in an oven,^(A) it is to consist of the finest flour: either thick loaves made without yeast and with olive oil mixed in or thin loaves^(B) made without yeast and brushed with olive oil.^(C)
