³⁴ And there came against Gibeah 10,000 chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was hard, ^(A)but the Benjaminites did not know that disaster was close upon them.

¹⁴ And as soon as the king of Ai saw this, he and all his people, the men of the city, hurried and went out early to the appointed place^[a] toward ^(A)the Arabah to meet Israel in battle. ^(B)But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(A)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(B)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Watch Yourselves

³⁴ “But watch yourselves ^(A)lest ^(B)your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and ^(C)cares of this life, and ^(D)that day come upon you suddenly ^(E)like a trap.

⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ^(A)ready, for ^(B)the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

¹² For man ^(A)does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net, and ^(B)like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are ^(C)snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.
