²² And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”^(A)

²⁶ For who is there of all flesh that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire, as we have, and lived?^(A)

³⁰ So Jacob called the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “For I have seen God face to face, yet my life is preserved.”^(A)

¹⁸ No one has ever seen God. It is the only Son, himself God, who^[a] is close to the Father’s heart,^[b] who has made him known.^(A)

⁵ And I said, “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”^(A)

²² Then Gideon perceived that it was the angel of the Lord, and Gideon said, “Help me, Lord God! For I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.”^(A)

²⁰ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one shall see me and live.”^(A)

³⁷ And the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his form,^(A)

³⁸ driving out before you nations greater and mightier than yourselves, to bring you in, giving you their land for a possession, as it is still today.^(A)
