and lest you (A)go[a] among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not (B)make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to (C)swear by them; you shall not (D)serve them nor bow down to them, but you shall (E)hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day. (F)For the Lord has [b]driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day. 10 (G)One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, (H)as He promised you. 11 (I)Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God. 12 Or else, if indeed you do (J)go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations—these that remain among you—and (K)make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, 13 know for certain that (L)the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. (M)But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

14 “Behold, this day (N)I[c] am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that (O)not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.

Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear(A) by them. You must not serve them or bow down(B) to them. But you are to hold fast to the Lord(C) your God, as you have until now.

“The Lord has driven out before you great and powerful nations;(D) to this day no one has been able to withstand you.(E) 10 One of you routs a thousand,(F) because the Lord your God fights for you,(G) just as he promised. 11 So be very careful(H) to love the Lord(I) your God.

12 “But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them(J) and associate with them,(K) 13 then you may be sure that the Lord your God will no longer drive out(L) these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares(M) and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes,(N) until you perish from this good land,(O) which the Lord your God has given you.

14 “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth.(P) You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise(Q) has been fulfilled; not one has failed.(R)
