¹² Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen,^(A) in holy fear built an ark^(B) to save his family.^(C) By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.^(D)

⁸ By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance,^(E) obeyed and went,^(F) even though he did not know where he was going.

⁶ After saying this, he spit^(A) on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ⁷ “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam”^(B) (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.^(C)

¹⁰ Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). ¹¹ Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks,^(A) and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

⁶ So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.”^{(A) 7} And he ordered the army, “Advance^(B)! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark^(C) of the Lord.”

⁸ When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the Lord went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant followed them.

Crossing the Jordan

3 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim^(A) and went to the Jordan,^(B) where they camped before crossing over.

²⁵ he gave this command to the Levites who carried^(A) the ark of the covenant of the Lord:

³ Early the next morning^(A) Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

⁵ His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”^(A)

⁶ Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,^(B) each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.^[a]

⁷ Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

⁸ Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so,
