¹³ However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labor but did not drive them out completely.^(A)

¹⁰ They did not dislodge the Canaanites living in Gezer; to this day the Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim but are required to do forced labor.^(A)

¹³ I can do all this through him who gives me strength.^(A)

¹⁸ But grow in the grace^(A) and knowledge^(B) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.^(C) To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.^(D)

The Armor of God

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord^(A) and in his mighty power.^(B)

⁷ There were still people left from the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites^(A) (these people were not Israelites). ⁸ Solomon conscripted^(B) the descendants of all these people remaining in the land—whom the Israelites had not destroyed—to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day.

3 The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time.^(A) David grew stronger and stronger,^(B) while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.^(C)

³⁵ And the Amorites were determined also to hold out in Mount Heres,^(A) Aijalon^(B) and Shaalbim,^(C) but when the power of the tribes of Joseph increased, they too were pressed into forced labor.

³³ Neither did Naphtali drive out those living in Beth Shemesh^(A) or Beth Anath^(B); but the Naphtalites too lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, and those living in Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath became forced laborers for them.

³⁰ Neither did Zebulun drive out the Canaanites living in Kitron or Nahalol, so these Canaanites lived among them, but Zebulun did subject them to forced labor.
