Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (E)Satan demanded to have you,[a] (F)that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but (G)I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, (H)strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter[b] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both (I)to prison and (J)to death.” 34 (K)Jesus[c] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

35 And he said to them, (L)“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that (M)this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: (N)‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For (O)what is written about me has its fulfillment.” 38 And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two (P)swords.” And he said to them, (Q)“It is enough.”

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

39 (R)And he came out and went, (S)as was his custom, to (T)the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 (U)And when he came to (V)the place, he said to them, (W)“Pray that you may not (X)enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and (Y)knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, (Z)“Father, if you are willing, remove (AA)this cup from me. (AB)Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, (A)which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them: (B)from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and (C)all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 (D)and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11 and Gilead, and the (E)region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and (F)all Bashan to Salecah; 12 (G)all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of (H)the remnant of the Rephaim); (I)these Moses had struck and driven out. 13 (J)Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.

14 (K)To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance. The offerings by fire to the Lord God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to him.

15 And Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the people of Reuben according to their clans. 16 So their territory was from Aroer, (L)which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland by (M)Medeba; 17 with Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the tableland; (N)Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon, 18 (O)and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 and (P)Kiriathaim, and (Q)Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill of the valley, 20 and (R)Beth-peor, and (S)the slopes of Pisgah, and (T)Beth-jeshimoth, 21 that is, (U)all the cities of the tableland, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, (V)whom Moses defeated with (W)the leaders of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. 22 (X)Balaam also, the son of Beor, the one who practiced divination, was killed with the sword by the people of Israel among the rest of their slain. 23 And the border of the people of Reuben was the Jordan as a boundary. This was the inheritance of the people of Reuben, according to their clans with their cities and villages.

24 Moses gave an inheritance also to the tribe of Gad, to the people of Gad, according to their clans. 25 (Y)Their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites, to Aroer, which is east of (Z)Rabbah, 26 and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from (AA)Mahanaim to the territory of Debir,[b] 27 and in the valley Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, (AB)Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, having the Jordan as a boundary, to the lower end of the Sea of (AC)Chinnereth, eastward beyond the Jordan. 28 This is the inheritance of the people of Gad according to their clans, with their cities and villages.

29 And Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh. It was allotted to the half-tribe of the people of Manasseh according to their clans. 30 Their region extended from (AD)Mahanaim, through all Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all (AE)the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities, 31 and half Gilead, and (AF)Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. These were allotted to the people of (AG)Machir the son of Manasseh for the half of the people of Machir according to their clans.

32 These are the inheritances that Moses distributed (AH)in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho.

11 (For (A)only Og the king of Bashan was left of the remnant of (B)the Rephaim. Behold, his bed was a bed of iron. Is it not in (C)Rabbah of the Ammonites? Nine cubits[a] was its length, and four cubits its breadth, according to the (D)common cubit.[b])

12 “When we took possession of this land at that time, I gave to the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory beginning (E)at Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead with (F)its cities. 13 (G)The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, that is, (H)all the region of Argob, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. (All that portion of Bashan is called the land of (I)Rephaim. 14 (J)Jair the Manassite took all the region of Argob, that is, Bashan, as far as the border of (K)the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called the villages (L)after his own name, Havvoth-jair, as it is to this day.) 15 To Machir (M)I gave Gilead, 16 and to the Reubenites (N)and the Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead as far as the Valley of the Arnon, with the middle of the valley as a border, as far over as the river Jabbok, (O)the border of the Ammonites; 17 the Arabah also, with the Jordan as the border, from (P)Chinnereth as far as (Q)the Sea of the Arabah, (R)the Salt Sea, under (S)the slopes of Pisgah on the east.

24 (A)And Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the (B)Jabbok, as far as to the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was strong. 25 And Israel took all these cities, and Israel settled in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. 26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon. 27 Therefore the (C)ballad singers say,

“Come to (D)Heshbon, let it be built;
    let the city of Sihon be established.
28 For (E)fire came out from (F)Heshbon,
    flame from the city of Sihon.
It devoured (G)Ar of Moab,
    and swallowed[a] the heights of the Arnon.
29 (H)Woe to you, O Moab!
    You are undone, O people of (I)Chemosh!
He has made his sons fugitives,
    and his daughters captives,
    to an Amorite king, Sihon.
30 So we overthrew them;
    Heshbon, as far as (J)Dibon, perished;
    and we laid waste as far as Nophah;
    fire spread as far as (K)Medeba.”[b]

King Og Defeated

31 Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. 32 And Moses sent to spy out (L)Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who were there. 33 Then they turned and went up by the way to Bashan. And Og the king of Bashan came out against them, he and all his people, to battle (M)at Edrei. 34 (N)But the Lord said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people, and his land. And (O)you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.” 35 So they defeated him and his sons and all his people, until he had no survivor left. And they possessed his land.
