²⁸ And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but ^(A)we are disciples of Moses.

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew and ^(A)rely on the law and boast in God

^23 (A)When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, ^(B)but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

¹² and we ^(A)labor, working with our own hands. ^(B)When reviled, we bless; ^(C)when persecuted, we endure;

¹¹ Then ^(A)they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” ¹² And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, ¹³ and they ^(B)set up false ^(C)witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against ^(D)this holy place and the law, ¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth ^(E)will destroy this place and will ^(F)change ^(G)the customs that Moses delivered to us.”

³⁴ They answered him, ^(A)“You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they ^(B)cast him out.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^(A)“Have you also been deceived? ^48 (B)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ^50 (C)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 (D)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(E)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^(F)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(G)no prophet arises from Galilee.”

^19 (A)Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. ^(B)Why do you seek to kill me?”
