⁴⁰ but now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.

²⁶ I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but the one who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”^(A)

²⁹ But just as at that time the child who was born according to the flesh persecuted the child who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.^(A)

¹⁶ Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?

The Dragon Fights Again on Earth

¹³ So when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued^[a] the woman who had delivered the male child.

¹⁷ Then the dragon was angry with the woman and went off to wage war on the rest of her children, those who keep the commandments of God and hold the testimony of Jesus.^(A)

⁴ His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to deliver a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.^(A)

¹² We must not be like Cain, who was from the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Do not be astonished, brothers and sisters, that the world hates you.^{(A) 14} We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brothers and sisters. Whoever does not love abides in death.^{(B) 15} All who hate a brother or sister are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them.^(C)

¹² and likewise the ancestor of the circumcised who are not only circumcised but follow the example of the faith that our ancestor Abraham had before he was circumcised.

⁵⁶ Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day; he saw it and was glad.”^(A)
