⁴² They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph,^(A) whose father and mother we know?^(B) How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”^(C)

²² All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.^(A)

³ Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,^[a] Judas and Simon?^(A) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.^(B)

⁵⁵ “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?^(A) Isn’t his mother’s^(B) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers^(C) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? ⁵⁶ Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”

²⁷ But we know where this man is from;^(A) when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”

²⁸ Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,^(B) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.^(C) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.^(D) You do not know him,

⁴ But when the set time had fully come,^(A) God sent his Son,^(B) born of a woman,^(C) born under the law,^(D)

⁴⁷ The first man was of the dust of the earth;^(A) the second man is of heaven.^(B)

³ regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life^[a](A) was a descendant of David,^{(B) 4} and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power^[b](C) by his resurrection from the dead:^(D) Jesus Christ our Lord.^(E)

⁶² Then what if you see the Son of Man^(A) ascend to where he was before!^(B)
