¹⁴ Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly ^(A)the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

A New Prophet Like Moses

^15 (A)“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, ¹⁶ according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb ^(B)in the day of the assembly, saying, ^(C)‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’

¹⁷ “And the Lord said to me: ^(D)‘What they have spoken is good. ^18 (E)I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and ^(F)will put My words in His mouth, ^(G)and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

¹¹ So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, ^(A)the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

³ and said to Him, “Are You ^(A)the Coming One, or do we look for another?”

Israel Rebels Against God

³⁷ “This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ^(A)‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. ^(B)Him^[a] you shall hear.’

Who Is He?

⁴⁰ Therefore ^[a]many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is ^(A)the Prophet.”

²¹ And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you ^(A)the Prophet?”

And he answered, “No.”

²² For Moses truly said to the fathers, ^(A)‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. ²³ And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ ²⁴ Yes, and ^(B)all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also ^[a]foretold these days.

¹⁹ The woman said to Him, “Sir, ^(A)I perceive that You are a prophet.
