⁴² They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”^(A)

¹⁴ And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.

¹⁹ that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself,^[a] not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.^(A)

The Lamb of God

²⁹ The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!^(A)

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true;^[a] and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.^(A)

¹⁰ For to this end we toil and suffer reproach,^[a] because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.^(A)

¹² “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”^(A)

²⁹ “Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah,^[a] can he?”^(A)

¹¹ The scripture says, “No one who believes^[a] in him will be put to shame.”^{(A) 12} For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him.^{(B) 13} For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”^(C)

¹¹ These Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message very eagerly and examined the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so.^{(A) 12} Many of them therefore believed, including not a few Greek women and men of high standing.
