²⁷ John answered, “No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven.^(A)

¹⁷ Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.^[a](A)

⁷ For who sees anything different in you?^[a] What do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive?^(A)

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I but the grace of God that is with me.^(A)

¹⁰ Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.^{(A) 11} Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.^(B)

¹² Now we have received not the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. ¹³ And we speak of these things in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things to those who are spiritual.^[a](A)

¹⁴ Those who are unspiritual^[b] do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.^(B)

¹⁵ and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’^(A)

⁴ And one does not presume to take this honor but takes it only when called by God, just as Aaron was.^(A)

⁵ So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest but was appointed by^[a] the one who said to him,

¹⁵ to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. At once^(A)
