¹³ They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”^(A)

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”^(B)

¹⁵ He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?^(A) Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

² So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved,^(A) and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”^(B)

⁴ “Woman,^[a](A) why do you involve me?”^(B) Jesus replied. “My hour^(C) has not yet come.”

¹³ Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die^(A) in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”^(B)

²⁶ When Jesus saw his mother^(A) there, and the disciple whom he loved^(B) standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,^[a] here is your son,”

²⁰ Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn^(A) while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.^{(B) 21} A woman giving birth to a child has pain^(C) because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. ²² So with you: Now is your time of grief,^(D) but I will see you again^(E) and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.^(F)

⁶ Rather, you are filled with grief^(A) because I have said these things. ⁷ But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate^(B) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.^(C)

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.^(A) I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled^(B) and do not be afraid.

²⁸ “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’^(C) If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,^(D) for the Father is greater than I.^(E)
