¹¹ Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup^(A) the Father has given me?”

³⁹ Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup^(A) be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”^(B)

²² “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup^(A) I am going to drink?”

“We can,” they answered.

⁴² “Father, if you are willing, take this cup^(A) from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”^(B)

² fixing our eyes on Jesus,^(A) the pioneer^(B) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,^(C) scorning its shame,^(D) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.^(E)

¹⁰ If you keep my commands,^(A) you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

²⁷ “Now my soul is troubled,^(A) and what shall I say? ‘Father,^(B) save me from this hour’?^(C) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. ²⁸ Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven,^(D) “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

³⁵ Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour^(A) might pass from him. ³⁶ “Abba,^[a] Father,”^(B) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup^(C) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”^(D)

³⁸ “You don’t know what you are asking,”^(A) Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup^(B) I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”^(C)

³⁹ “We can,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,^(D)
