Jesus Arrested^(A)

18 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley.^(B) On the other side there was a garden,^(C) and he and his disciples went into it.^(D)

³⁶ Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

²³ The whole countryside wept aloud^(A) as all the people passed by. The king also crossed the Kidron Valley,^(B) and all the people moved on toward the wilderness.

²⁶ One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off,^(A) challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?”^(B)

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives^(A)

³⁹ Jesus went out as usual^(B) to the Mount of Olives,^(C) and his disciples followed him. ⁴⁰ On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”^(D)

³¹ but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.^(A)

“Come now; let us leave.

⁴⁰ The whole valley^(A) where dead bodies^(B) and ashes are thrown, and all the terraces out to the Kidron Valley^(C) on the east as far as the corner of the Horse Gate,^(D) will be holy^(E) to the Lord. The city will never again be uprooted or demolished.”

¹⁴ They removed the altars^(A) in Jerusalem and cleared away the incense altars and threw them into the Kidron Valley.^(B)
