17 These things Jesus spake, and when he had cast up his eyes into heaven [and the eyes lifted up to heaven], he said, Father, the hour cometh, clarify thy Son, that thy Son clarify thee.

As thou hast given to him power on each flesh, that all thing that thou hast given to him, he give to them everlasting life.

And this is everlasting life, that they know thee very God alone [that they know thee alone very God], and whom thou hast sent, Jesus Christ.

I have clarified thee on the earth, I have ended the work, that thou hast given to me to do.

And now, Father, clarify thou me at thyself, with the clearness that I had at thee, before the world was made.

I have showed thy name to those men, which thou hast given to me of the world [I have showed thy name to the men, whom thou hast given to me of the world]; they were thine, and thou hast given them to me, and they have kept thy word.

And now they have known, that all things that thou hast given to me, be of thee.

For the words that thou hast given to me, I gave to them; and they have taken, and have known verily, that I went out from thee; and they believed, that thou sentest me.

I pray for them, I pray not for the world, but for them that thou hast given to me, for they be thine.

10 And all my things be thine, and thy things be mine [And all mine things be thine, and thine things be mine]; and I am clarified in them.

11 And now I am not in the world, and these be in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name, which thou hast given to me [whom thou hast given to me], that they be one, as we be.

12 While I was with them, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gavest to me, I kept, and none of them perished, but the son of perdition, that the scripture be fulfilled.

13 But now I come to thee, and I speak these things in the world [and these things I speak in the world], that they have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I gave to them thy word, and the world had them in hate; for they be not of the world, as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not, that thou take them away from the world, but that thou keep them from evil.

16 They be not of the world, as I am not of the world.

17 Hallow thou them in truth; thy word is truth.

18 As thou sentest me into the world, also I sent them into the world.

19 And I hallow myself for them, that also they be hallowed in truth.

20 And I pray not only for them, but also for them that shall believe into me by the word of them;

21 that all be one [that all they be one], as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee, that also they in us be one; that the world believe, that thou hast sent me.

22 And I have given to them the clearness, that thou hast given to me, that they be one, as we be one;

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they be ended into one; and that the world know, that thou sentest me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved also me.

24 Father, they which thou hast given to me, I will that where I am, that they be with me, that they see my clearness, that thou hast given to me [Father, I will that and they whom thou hast given to me, be with me where I am, that they see my clearness, which thou hast given to me]; for thou lovedest me before the making of the world.

25 Father, rightfully the world knew thee not [Rightful Father, the world knew not thee], but I knew thee, and these knew, that thou sentest me.

26 And I have made thy name known to them, and shall make known; that the love by which thou hast loved me, be in them, and I in them.

The most hearty and loving prayer of Christ to his Father for all those who receive the truth.

17 These words Jesus spoke, and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come. Glorify your Son so that your Son may glorify you. For you have given him power over all flesh, so that he may give eternal life to as many as you have given him. This is life eternal: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

I have glorified you on the earth. I have finished the work that you gave me to do. And now glorify me, Father, with your own self – with the glory that I had with you before the world was. I have declared your name to the men that you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your sayings. Now they know that all things, whatsoever you have given me, are of you. For I have given to them the words that you gave me and they have received them, and know surely that I came out from you, and do believe that you did send me.

I pray for them – and pray not for the world, but for those whom you have given me. For they are yours. 10 And all mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep in your own name those whom you have given me so that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. Those whom you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost except that lost child, so that the scripture may be fulfilled.

13 Now I come to you. And I speak these words in the world so that they may have my joy full in them. 14 I have given them your words. And the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I ask not that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from evil. 16 They are not of the world, as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them with your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so have I sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified through the truth.

20 I pray not for them alone, but also for those who will believe on me through their preaching: 21 that they all may be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I in you; that they may also be one in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 And the glory that you gave me, I have given them, so that they may be one as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, so that they may be made perfect in one, and so that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them as you have loved me.

24 Father, I will that those whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see the glory that you have given me. For you loved me before the making of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the very world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me. 26 And I have declared to them your name, and will declare it, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.

17 1 Christ prayeth that his glory together with his Father’s may be made manifest. 9 He Prayeth for his Apostles,  20 and for all believers.

These [a]things spake Jesus, and lift up his eyes to heaven, and said, [b]Father, that hour is come: glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee,

(A)As thou hast given him power over [c]all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all them that thou hast given him.

And this is life eternal, that they know thee to be the [d]only very God, and whom thou hast sent, Jesus Christ.

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

And now glorify me, thou Father, with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

[e]I have declared thy Name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: [f]thine they were, and thou [g]gavest them me, and they have kept thy word.

(B)Now they know that all things whatsoever thou hast given me, are of thee.

For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and have believed that thou hast sent me.

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me: for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them.

11 And now am I no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy Name, even them whom thou hast given me, that they may be [h]one as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy Name: those that thou gavest me, have I kept, and none of them is lost, but the child of perdition, that the (C)Scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee, and these things speak I in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.

15 [i]I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou keep them from evil.

16 They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.

17 [j]Sanctify them with thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 [k]As thou didst send me into the world, so have I sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes sanctify I myself, that they also may be sanctified through the [l]truth.

20 [m]I pray not for these alone, but for them also which shall believe in me, through their word,

21 That they all may be one, as thou, O Father, art in me, and I in thee: even that they may be also one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory that thou gavest me, I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one,

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou hast loved me.

24 (D)Father, I will that they which thou hast given me, be with me even where I am, that they may behold that my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world also hath not known thee, but I have known thee, and these have known, that thou hast sent me.

26 [n]And I have declared unto them thy Name, and will declare it, that the love wherewith thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them.

John 17:1 Jesus Christ the everlasting high Priest being ready straightway to offer up himself, doth by solemn prayers consecrate himself to God the Father as a sacrifice: and us together with himself. 2. John 17:1 He first declareth, that as he came into the world to the end that the Father might show in him, being apprehended by faith, his glory in saving his elect, so he applied himself to that only: and therefore desireth of the Father, that he would bless the work which he hath finished.

  4. John 17:3 He calleth the Father the only very God, to set him against all false gods, and not to shut out himself and the holy Ghost, For straightway he joineth the knowledge of the Father and the knowledge of himself together, and according to his accustomed manner, setteth forth the whole Godhead in the person of the father: So is the Father alone said to be King, immortal, wise, and dwelling in the light which no man can attain unto, invisible, Rom. 16:17; 1 Tim. 1:17.
  5. John 17:6 First of all he prayeth for those his disciples, by whom he would have the rest to be gathered together, commendeth them unto the Father, (having once rejected the whole company of the reprobate) because he received them of him into his custody, and for that they embracing his doctrine, shall have so many and so mighty enemies, that there is no way for them to be in safety, but by his help only.
