¹² My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.^(A)

³⁷ Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’^{[a](A) 38} This is the first and greatest commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^{[b](B) 40} All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”^(C)

²³ “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth^(A) of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.^(B) You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

³⁰ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’^{[a](A) 31} The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[b](B) There is no commandment greater than these.”

³⁴ “A new command^(A) I give you: Love one another.^(B) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.^(C)

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in love.^(A) Honor one another above yourselves.^(B)

⁹ Now about your love for one another^(A) we do not need to write to you,^(B) for you yourselves have been taught by God^(C) to love each other.^(D)

²² Now that you have purified^(A) yourselves by obeying^(B) the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply,^(C) from the heart.^[a]

⁸ Above all, love each other deeply,^(A) because love covers over a multitude of sins.^(B)
