¹⁵ I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.^(A)

⁹ However, as it is written:

¹⁰ these are the things God has revealed^(B) to us by his Spirit.^(C)

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who knows a person’s thoughts^(D) except their own spirit^(E) within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² What we have received is not the spirit^(F) of the world,^(G) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

¹¹ He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven^(A) has been given to you,^(B) but not to them.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”^[a](A) and he was called God’s friend.^(B)

Prologue

1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave^(A) him to show his servants what must soon take place.^(B) He made it known by sending his angel^(C) to his servant John,^(D)

²⁶ the mystery^(A) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.

¹⁷ Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham^(A) what I am about to do?^{(B) 18} Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation,^(C) and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.^{[a] 19} For I have chosen him^(D), so that he will direct his children^(E) and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord^(F) by doing what is right and just,^(G) so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”^(H)

⁵ which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.^(A)
