^10 (A)If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Jesus Promises Another Helper

^15 (A)“If you love Me, ^[a]keep My commandments.

^3 (A)For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And ^(B)His commandments are not burdensome.

⁵ But ^(A)whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God ^[a]is perfected ^(B)in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, ^(A)we have confidence toward God. ²² And ^(B)whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments ^(C)and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. ²³ And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ ^(D)and love one another, as He gave ^[a]us commandment.

The Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Error

²⁴ Now ^(E)he who keeps His commandments ^(F)abides in Him, and He in him. And ^(G)by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

The Test of Knowing Christ

2 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, ^(A)we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. ² And ^(B)He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but ^(C)also for the whole world.

²¹ For ^(A)it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

Plea for Purity

4 Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus ^(A)that you should abound more and more, ^(B)just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;

²⁹ And ^(A)He who sent Me is with Me. ^(B)The Father has not left Me alone, ^(C)for I always do those things that please Him.”
