⁴¹ And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but ^(A)everything that John said about this man was true.”

³³ I myself did not know him, but ^(A)he who sent me to baptize ^(B)with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, ^(C)this is he who baptizes ^(D)with the Holy Spirit.’ ³⁴ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son^[a] of God.”

Behold, the Lamb of God

²⁹ The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, ^(A)the Lamb of God, who ^(B)takes away the sin ^(C)of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, ^(D)‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, ^(A)“Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, ^(B)to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and ^(C)all are going to him.” ²⁷ John answered, ^(D)“A person cannot receive even one thing ^(E)unless it is given him ^(F)from heaven. ²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ^(G)‘I am not the Christ, but ^(H)I have been sent before him.’ ^29 (I)The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. ^(J)The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, ^(K)rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. ^30 (L)He must increase, but I must decrease.”^[a]

^31 (M)He who comes from above ^(N)is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and ^(O)speaks in an earthly way. ^(P)He who comes from heaven ^(Q)is above all. ^32 (R)He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, ^(S)yet no one receives his testimony. ³³ Whoever receives his testimony ^(T)sets his seal to this, ^(U)that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom ^(V)God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit ^(W)without measure. ^35 (X)The Father loves the Son and ^(Y)has given all things into his hand. ^36 (Z)Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; ^(AA)whoever does not obey the Son shall not ^(AB)see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

¹¹ This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested ^(A)his glory. And ^(B)his disciples believed in him.

²⁷ even ^(A)he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”

Beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees

12 In the meantime, ^(A)when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, ^(B)“Beware of ^(C)the leaven of the Pharisees, ^(D)which is hypocrisy.

²⁶ What then did you go out to see? ^(A)A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he of whom it is written,

²⁸ I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” ²⁹ (^(C)When all the people heard this, and ^(D)the tax collectors too, they declared God just,^{[a] (E)}having been baptized with ^(F)the baptism of John, ^30 (G)but the Pharisees and ^(H)the lawyers ^(I)rejected ^(J)the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)
