²⁶ John answered them, saying, ^(A)“I baptize with water, ^(B)but there stands One among you whom you do not know.

^5 (A)for John truly baptized with water, ^(B)but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and ^(A)the world did not know Him. ^11 (B)He came to His ^[a]own, and His ^[b]own did not receive Him.

^8 (A)I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you ^(B)with the Holy Spirit.”

¹⁹ Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”

Jesus answered, ^(A)“You know neither Me nor My Father. ^(B)If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, ^(A)“I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will ^(B)baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

^11 (A)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire.

The Command to Love

3 Behold ^(A)what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that ^(B)we should be called children of ^[a]God! Therefore the world does not know ^[b]us, ^(C)because it did not know Him.

¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ^(A)‘John indeed baptized with water, but ^(B)you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
