25 Therefore some of Jerusalem said, Whether this is not he, whom the Jews seek to slay?

26 and lo! he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Whether the princes know verily, that this is Christ?

27 But we know this man, of whence he is; but when Christ shall come, no man knoweth of whence he is.

28 Therefore Jesus cried in the temple teaching, and said [Therefore Jesus cried in the temple, teaching, and saying], Ye know me, and ye know of whence I am; and I came not of myself, but he is true that sent me, whom ye know not.

29 I know him, and if I say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar; but I know him, for of him I am, and he sent me.

30 Therefore they sought to take him, and no man set on him hands, for his hour came not yet.

31 And many of the people believed in him, and said, When Christ shall come, whether he shall do more tokens, than those that this doeth?

25 Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is this not the man they are going about to kill? 26 Look, he speaks boldly, but they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? 27 But we know this man, where he is from, and when Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.

28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple as he taught, saying, You know me; and where I am from, you know. And yet I am not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you do not know. 29 I know him, for I am of him, and he has sent me.

30 Then they would have apprehended him, but no man laid hands on him, because his time was not yet come. 31 Many of the people believed on him and said, When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than this man has done?

25 [a]Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he whom they go about to kill?

26 And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him: do the rulers know indeed that this is indeed that Christ?

27 [b]Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when that Christ cometh, no man shall know whence he is.

28 [c]Then cried Jesus in the Temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am: yet am I not come of myself, but he that sent me, is true, whom ye know not.

29 But I know him: for I am of him, and he hath sent me.

30 [d]Then they sought to take him, but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

Division Over Who Jesus Is

25 At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?(A) 26 Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities(B) really concluded that he is the Messiah?(C) 27 But we know where this man is from;(D) when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”

28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,(E) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.(F) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.(G) You do not know him, 29 but I know him(H) because I am from him and he sent me.”(I)

30 At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him,(J) because his hour had not yet come.(K) 31 Still, many in the crowd believed in him.(L) They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs(M) than this man?”
