20 When he had said this, (A)he showed them his hands and his side. Then (B)the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As (C)the Father has sent me, (D)even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he (E)breathed on them and said to them, (F)“Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 (G)If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
Jesus and Thomas
24 Now (H)Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,[a] was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, (I)“Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. (J)Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, (K)“Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, (L)“Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, (M)“My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? (N)Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
The Purpose of This Book
30 (O)Now Jesus did many other signs (P)in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 (Q)but these are written so that you may (R)believe that Jesus is the Christ, (S)the Son of God, and that by believing (T)you may have life (U)in his name.

20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side.(A) The disciples were overjoyed(B) when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you!(C) As the Father has sent me,(D) I am sending you.”(E) 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.(F) 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”(G)
Jesus Appears to Thomas
24 Now Thomas(H) (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,(I) I will not believe.”(J)
26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(K) be with you!”(L) 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”(M)
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;(N) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(O)
The Purpose of John’s Gospel
30 Jesus performed many other signs(P) in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.(Q) 31 But these are written that you may believe[b](R) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,(S) and that by believing you may have life in his name.(T)
