²⁵ And that is what the soldiers did.

Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.^(A)

⁴⁹ But all his acquaintances, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching these things.^(A)

⁴⁰ There were also women looking on from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome,^{(A) 41} who followed him when he was in Galilee and ministered to him, and there were many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.^(B)

⁵⁵ Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.^{(A) 56} Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph,^[a] and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.^(B)

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

¹¹ But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look^[a] into the tomb,^{(A) 12} and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet.^{(B) 13} They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”^{(C) 14} When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir,^[b] if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”^{(D) 16} Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew,^[c] “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). ¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”^{(E) 18} Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them that he had said these things to her.^(F)
