19 [a](A)After a little while, (B)the world no longer is going to see Me, but you are going to see Me; (C)because I live, you also will live. 20 (D)On that day you will know that (E)I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I in you. 21 (F)The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (G)the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (H)reveal Myself to him.” 22 (I)Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what has happened (J)that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, (K)If anyone loves Me, he will (L)follow My word; and (M)My Father will love him, and We (N)will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. 24 The one who does not love Me (O)does not follow My words; and (P)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. 26 But the (Q)Helper, the Holy Spirit (R)whom the Father will send in My name, (S)He will teach you all things, and (T)remind you of all that I said to you. 27 (U)Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. (V)[b]Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor [c]fearful. 28 (W)You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away, and (X)I am coming to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced [d]because (Y)I am going to the Father, for (Z)the Father is greater than I. 29 And now (AA)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. 30 I will not speak much more with you, for (AB)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has [e]nothing in regard to Me, 31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, [f]I do exactly as (AC)the Father commanded Me. Get up, (AD)let’s go from here.

Jesus Is the Vine—Followers Are Branches

15 (AE)I am the true vine, and My Father is the (AF)vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He [g]prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. (AG)You are already [h]clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. (AH)Remain in Me, [i]and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit [j]of itself [k]but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him [l](AI)bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is (AJ)thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, (AK)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My (AL)Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so [m](AM)prove to be My disciples. Just as (AN)the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love. 10 (AO)If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as (AP)I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. 11 (AQ)These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your (AR)joy may be made full.

Disciples’ Relation to Each Other

12 “This is (AS)My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 (AT)Greater love has no one than this, that a person will (AU)lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My (AV)friends if (AW)you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because (AX)all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 (AY)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and (AZ)bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that (BA)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17 This (BB)I command you, that you love one another.

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.(J) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.(K) 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.(L)

The Vine and the Branches

15 “I am(Y) the true vine,(Z) and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,(AA) while every branch that does bear fruit(AB) he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.(AC) Remain in me, as I also remain in you.(AD) No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;(AE) apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.(AF) If you remain in me(AG) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.(AH) This is to my Father’s glory,(AI) that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.(AJ)

“As the Father has loved me,(AK) so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands,(AL) you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.(AM) 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.(AN) 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.(AO) 14 You are my friends(AP) if you do what I command.(AQ) 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.(AR) 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you(AS) so that you might go and bear fruit(AT)—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.(AU) 17 This is my command: Love each other.(AV)
